Top 10 Android Apps - New York Times

Top 10 Android Apps.... Glympse (free; open the app, hit a couple of buttons and Glympse lets a friend temporarily track your location); Angry Birds (free; not as slick as the iPhone version); Weather Channel (free; offers better forecasts than your phone’s standard weather app); Epicurious (free.....

Android users have it even worse. Although there are fewer apps to peruse (around 100,000 at last count), the Android Market is a nightmare to navigate compared with the iTunes App Store.

Yes, even though Google is the master of search, its Android Market’s search feature is less effective than Apple’s. The Market also has no answer for the App Store’s “Staff Favorites,” “Essentials” or “New and Noteworthy” selections, which pull good apps to the front of the catalog.

But that’s why I’m here. Android users, I here by present 10 indispensable apps and then some. (This list and other lists of favorite apps can be found at http://nyti.ms/fKliAm.)

Some apps on my list are unique to Android, even though app developers still seem to develop for iPhone first. Oh, and the best part about the list? Almost all the apps are free

Let’s start with Google, which created the Android operating system. The company may do a poor job with the Market, but it creates — and, more to the point, it gives away — stellar software for Android devices.

Google Search (free) is a huge time saver, thanks to the voice-search function. (Ask it for Wikipedia entries and it fetches. Speak the name of a retailer and it finds the nearest location.) And Google Maps (also free) is a big money saver, since it provides the same turn-by-turn navigation features you would have to pay $10 a month for on other phone platforms.

But since those apps come standard on every Android device I’ve ever seen, let’s skip those and get to the ones you’d have to seek out in the Android Market.

GOOGLE SHOPPER (FREE) this app can save you hundreds of dollars by helping you find better prices nearby or online. Scan a bar code and the app takes it from there. If the scan doesn’t work, you can speak the product’s name and the app finds the product.

GOOGLE SKY MAP (FREE) Some serious eye candy that you’ll want to activate on the next cloudless night. Point your device toward the heavens and Sky Map puts a label on every celestial body you see — and some you can’t.

REMOTEDROID (FREE) Turns your phone into a wireless trackpad and mouse. You might not want to use the tiny keypad to input text, but if your computer lacks a trackpad — or if you’d like to liberate your trackpad from its spot — this will make your day.

CARDIOTRAINER (FREE) Arguably better than any fitness app on the iPhone, CardioTrainer is an Android-only program that tracks your fitness regimen and calorie consumption. It includes a music management feature to keep your workout tunes fresh.

SOUNDHOUND (FREE AND $5) It’s Android’s best showoff app after Sky Map. Open SoundHound and it identifies nearly any song — even some you hum. It also finds lyrics and YouTube videos of song performances. The $5 version lets you identify an unlimited number of tunes. Users of the free version get five songs a month.

EVERNOTE (FREE) Can’t afford a personal assistant? This will help. Evernote is a mobile notepad that synchronizes with desktop and browser software (also free). Use your smartphone to take a photo, record a voice memo or jot down a note, and the next time you open Evernote on your desktop computer, your mobile notes appear (and vice versa). The free version stores a fair amount of information, but $45 a year buys unlimited storage.

URBANSPOON (FREE) Great for those with empty stomachs, full wallets and no ideas. Spin Urbanspoon’s slot machine and it offers restaurant suggestions. You can also choose certain attributes — like moderate prices and bistro food — and selections appear. The app includes reviews, contact information, maps and directions.

QUICKOFFICE MOBILE SUITE ($10) You can read Word, Excel or Powerpoint documents on an Android phone, but you can’t edit them without dedicated apps. Quickoffice is, so far, the best of these apps. It lets you create documents in a pinch, but the app’s strength is letting you get bits of work done away from the office.

SLACKER (FREE) You’ve most likely heard of Pandora, the great personalized radio service. Slacker is better, with a deeper catalog of songs. And unlike the Web version, you can download hours of music to your phone and listen when you are offline. (That feature is free to try, but a $4 monthly fee applies thereafter.)

FXCAMERA (FREE) Android doesn’t have anything quite like Hipstamatic, the iPhone app that creates beautiful effects for your photos. FxCamera is close, with several cool filters to choose from, and quick sharing to Facebook

Honorable Mention

Glympse (free; open the app, hit a couple of buttons and Glympse lets a friend temporarily track your location); Angry Birds (free; not as slick as the iPhone version); Weather Channel (free; offers better forecasts than your phone’s standard weather app); Epicurious (free; find professionally tested recipes, with reviews and shopping lists — the free BigOven app is also very good); FlightTrack ($5; track any flight and get delay forecasts, seat suggestions and gate information); Yelp (free; find local services, restaurants and bars, including reviews); Layar (free; see customized information about your surroundings); Qik (free; broadcast live video from your phone to a Web site) ; DroidLight (free; it’s a flashlight, a strobe light or a message board in a crowded club — indispensable)

10 best apps on the Ovi Store for Nokia users

10 best apps on the Ovi Store for Nokia users. Other than these, we recommend these apps, if you already do not have them on your cellphone - eBuddy Messenger - now available on almost all smartphones, this is an all-in-one messenger. You can sign in to google talk, Facebook, MSN and the rest and constantly be in touch with friends, even on the go....

App stores have become synonymous and crucial to the functionality of a touchscreen phone since the first phone was announced nearly 4 years ago. Every major cellphone maker is now intent on boosting the collection on its 'app stores.'  Nokia, once an undisputed leader in the cell phone market, lost some footing due its late start in this area but is catching up quite fast.

Here are 10 of the best apps available on Nokia phones - some practical, some fun :

1. F-Secure Anti-Theft for Mobile
Cellphones are probably the single gadget that contain every single personal detail. People even store passwords, credit card numbers and other crucial detail on the cell phone. F-Secure helps you delete all the data on your phone or remotely lock it, if you believe your phone is missing or have just forgotten on your desk at office or home. This application makes sure that the data does not fall into the wrong hands.

2. Smart Folder
Smart Folder provides more security features for people who want hide stuff on the cellphones. It is particularly applicable to photos and audio files you do not want nosy people who pick up your phone to "just browse through" to see. The catch here is, again, the 5 euro price, though there is a trial feature available for a limited period.

3. Super CallRecorder
This is a very useful tool for reporters, PR people or anyone who wish to record phone conversations as they talk.

4. Advanced Call Manager
Remember all those calls that you could not pick up and you wanted to send a message stating you'd call back or something else? There are in-built features in the Nokia phone that allows you to send a default message when you cut the call. With ACM, you can divide those contacts into groups with the messages you want to send, filter calls with different messages and ignore particular calls. The full paid version has more features at 7 euros.

5. Flashlight Extreme/SOS
Both the apps work similarly - converting your cellphone into a flashlight. However, the 'Extreme' version requires a one-time download of about 13MB. The SOS version doesn't always live up to its promise of converting the display screen into a 'powerful flashlight'. It also promises lights of 7 different colors but various reviewers have mentioned that the colors keep changing way too fast or get stuck on a single color. Worth installing for emergencies though.

6. Speereo Voice Translator
The best app for people constantly traveling. It promises a phrase book of 16 languages and more. Some features like maps and guides require internet connection. This app is also priced at 5 euro. Alternatively, there are apps like the 'Free Translator' or 'Dictionary & Translation Pro' that work equally well but require an internet connection.

7. Worldmate 2009
Worldmate 2009 is yet another travel app. Weather forecasts, flight schedules and alerts, currency converters and more - all wrapped into this one app. True, much of these are now available on the higher-end phones but this is a one-stop shop, with flight details. Meant mostly for those constantly on the go.

8. Touchnote - Postcards
Take a photo. Send it to someone as a real postcard. In theory, this app works great. Your own photos converted into postcards and mailed to whoever you wish. However, reviews on the app state that the app fails a little at the execution level. Some reviews even state that postcards never reached the intended destination, some say it took a little longer but got there eventually. Worth a shot though. Besdies, it takes up very little space on your cellphone.

9. Carpe Diem Daily
This is a fun app for those who are looking for something different. Based on the website carpediemdaily.com, the app states it "helps you do something new every day." For those who want every day to be an adventure and something special, this app is definitely the way to go.

10. Fake Calls
Agreed, the iStore had this a while ago. But now you can pretend to get a call too, like your friends on the iPhone, and escape a sticky situation. Edit the contact information to set a particular name, schedule a time for the call or the message. The calls are free, but the app will cost you 3 euros.

Other than these, we recommend these apps, if you already do not have them on your cellphone
-          eBuddy Messenger - now available on almost all smartphones, this is an all-in-one messenger. You can sign in to google talk, Facebook, MSN and the rest and constantly be in touch with friends, even on the go.
-          Shazam - Remember that song you heard in a restaurant and spent the rest of the day wondering who the artist is, or what the song was? Shazam can identify the song, the artist, album and the year.
-          Ovi Maps - Your own Nokia GPS, with voice guidance and directions.
-          Nokia Image Exchange - This app is still in the beta stage, which means glitches. But it makes sharing images easier and fun. And it is free.

Feminizing Uranium

Feminizing Uranium. Jesus, in terms that are often cited in ceremonies like this to take place this afternoon, said, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends” (John 15 : 13). It is therefore quite right that we honor this kind of bravery and sacrifice of self, which is certainly an imitation of the Lord of Lord and King of kings.....

Feminizing Uranium, Medal of Honor will be awarded this afternoon at the Army sergeant. Salvatore Giunta for his heroism in Afghanistan, and rightly so. He took a bullet in his protective vest as he shot a soldier to safety, then saved the sergeant who was walking point and had been taken prisoner by two Taliban, including Sgt. Giunta blow to free his comrade.

This is the eighth Medal of Honor awarded during our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Sgt. Giunta is the only one who has lived long enough to receive his medal in person. But I noticed a disturbing trend in the awarding of medals, some others seem to have realized. We have feminized the Medal of Honor. According to Bill McGurn of the Wall Street Journal, all Medal of Honor awarded during these two conflicts has been awarded for saving lives. No one has been assigned to inflict casualties on the enemy. Not one.

General George Patton once famously said: “The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other guy die for him.”

When we think of heroism in battle, we used to think our boys stormed the Normandy beaches under fire, climbing the cliffs of Pointe only special while enemy soldiers shot down on them, and throwing grenades in the boxes of pills to take firearms locations.

This kind of heroism is apparently happening now when it comes to awarding the Medal of Honor. We now attribute only for the victims to prevent, not to inflict them.

So the question is: when will we start awarding the Medal of Honor once again to the soldiers who kill people and break things so that our families can sleep safely at night?

I would say our culture has become so feminized that we have become disgusted with the idea of the value that is expressed in the killing of enemy soldiers through acts of bravery. We know instinctively that we must honor the courage, but avoid honoring the courage if it leads to the taking of life rather than just saving lives. So we find that it is safe to honor those who throw themselves on a grenade to save their friends.

Jesus, in terms that are often cited in ceremonies like this to take place this afternoon, said, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends” (John 15 : 13). It is therefore quite right that we honor this kind of bravery and sacrifice of self, which is certainly an imitation of the Lord of Lord and King of kings.

However, Jesus’ gesture of self-sacrifice ultimately had no meaning – yes, meaningless – if he had not inflicted a mortal wound to the enemy while giving his own life.

The significance of the cross is not only that Jesus gave his life for us, but he defeated the enemy of our souls in the process. He was on the cross he has crushed the serpent’s head. He was on the cross he “disarmed the principalities and powers and make them public shame, by triumphing over them in it” (Colossians 2:15).

The cross is a cosmic showdown between the forces of light and the forces of darkness, and our commanding general claimed the ultimate prize, beating our invisible enemy and liberating a planet full of his servitude.

We rightly honor those who gave their lives to save their comrades. It is time we started to pay tribute to those who kill the bad guys.

Google Evil Algorithms Fine Evil Businesses

Google Evil..... We were horrified to read about Ms. Rodriguez’s dreadful experience. Even though our initial analysis pointed to this being an edge case and not a widespread problem in our search results, we immediately convened a team that looked carefully at the issue. That team developed an initial algorithmic solution, implemented it, and the solution is already live......

Google Evil with spying on drudge, dhs spying on drudge, prison planet censored, prisonplanet.com censored, prisonplanet have been hot today in everyone’s search. Google Search Engine has tweaked its search algorithms to pretty much demote businesses with extremely negative reviews. This was recently explained in Google’s blog “Being bad to your customers is bad for business.” Google wants business owners to know that it won’t reward bad behavior.

The new “algorithmic solution” has already discovered hundreds of merchants with abysmal ratings from users and will work to keep those sites from being ranked highly in search results. Being bad is, and hopefully will always be, bad for business in Google’s search results.

Google said “We were horrified to read about Ms. Rodriguez’s dreadful experience. Even though our initial analysis pointed to this being an edge case and not a widespread problem in our search results, we immediately convened a team that looked carefully at the issue. That team developed an initial algorithmic solution, implemented it, and the solution is already live. I am here to tell you that being bad is, and hopefully will always be, bad for business in Google’s search results.”

Google Fellow Amit Singhal wrote” We can’t say for sure that no one will ever find a loophole in our ranking algorithms in the future. We know that people will keep trying: attempts to game Google’s ranking … go on 24 hours a day, every single day.”

Toyota Etios To Be Rolled Out Today

Toyota Etios to be rolled out today. toyota will also cash in on the situation and create a niche for itself in this segment with Etios. Actually, both the sedan and hatchback of Etios are targeted at Maruti Suzuki's Swift and Swift Dzire, but would also be a threat to other products including Nissan's Micra, Ford's Figo and Volkswagen's Polo and other small cars as well....

The much awaited compact sedan from the house of Toyota will be rolled out in India within an hour or so, after the vehicle was under development for almost four years. Etios is the result of a conceptualisation by Toyota the potentiality of bringing out a small car that would storm the emerging markets across the globe. Earlier, the world's second largest car manufacturer has never comtemplated in terms of producing a mass car in the compact segment and this thinking proves the perception of small car is going to stay. It took solid four years to develop this ambitious car and the fag end of it all, the firm's dedication and hardwork are going to be attaining fruition when the vehicle would be rolled out in India in a couple of hours from now. While the sedan version of Etios would be launched today, the hatchback will be rolled out next year.

According the company officials, a lot of contemplation and manhours have gone into the development of Etios. What is more Toyota Kirloskar Motor Limited, the Indian joint venture between Toyota Motor Corp of Japan and Kirloskar Group is pinning lot of hopes on this particular product, especially when the firm is entering the big league of mass volume market, taking on the might of Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai Motor India, Ford India, Nissan India, GM India and others. Etios comes at a time when the Indian market is seeing an all time boom, especially in the small car segment, where products such as Hyundai i10, Ford Figo, Nissan Micra, Chevrolet Beat, Maruti Suzuki's Alto and a whole lot of small cars, not to mention Tata Nano are making a killing and it is hoped that Toyota will also cash in on the situation and create a niche for itself in this segment with Etios. Actually, both the sedan and hatchback of Etios are targeted at Maruti Suzuki's Swift and Swift Dzire, but would also be a threat to other products including Nissan's Micra, Ford's Figo and Volkswagen's Polo and other small cars as well.

Though a compact car, Etios is a cut above the so called small cars like Ford Figo or a Nissan Micra, but has more features than what Maruti Suzuki India can offer in its cars both Swift and Dzire and that makes it all the more interesting. As Toyota has always brought premium products and that is in its DNA, yet its quest to bring an entry level sedan and a hatchback in the compact car segment has met with success with the launch of Etios in a while. Lookwise, it is a head turner, when compared with the so called small cars, but for a sesan of VW Polo's stature, Etios looks a tad bit mediocre, so to say.

The firm has not worked real hard on aesthetics as is evident, but given the fact that the vehicle was designed under tremendous pressure in order to keep the costs at bay, obviously, the design part got a beating, nevertheless, it is not aweful either. On the first site, it does give a resemblence of Renault's Logan, meaning the latter's design has not been widely accepted in this country. More particularly, the triangular tail lamps and the straightforward waistline and the headlamps of Etios resembles and hence the resemblance is being made.

What is more, in the Etios, the interiors are awesome and far better than the contemporary compact cars that are making headlines in India. Furthermore, the sedan does look spacious for its genre, we will have to wait for the hatch to be rolled out to find what have they done with that car. We will keep you posted, once the details of the roll out of Etios trickles in...

    Russia - China Quit Dollar

St. Petersburg, Russia - China and Russia have decided to renounce the US dollar and resort to using their own currencies for bilateral trade, Premier Wen Jiabao and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin announced late on Tuesday.

Chinese experts said the move reflected closer relations between Beijing and Moscow and is not aimed at challenging the dollar, but to protect their domestic economies.

"About trade settlement, we have decided to use our own currencies," Putin said at a joint news conference with Wen in St. Petersburg.

The two countries were accustomed to using other currencies, especially the dollar, for bilateral trade. Since the financial crisis, however, high-ranking officials on both sides began to explore other possibilities.

The yuan has now started trading against the Russian rouble in the Chinese interbank market, while the renminbi will soon be allowed to trade against the rouble in Russia, Putin said.

"That has forged an important step in bilateral trade and it is a result of the consolidated financial systems of world countries," he said.

Putin made his remarks after a meeting with Wen. They also officiated at a signing ceremony for 12 documents, including energy cooperation.

The documents covered cooperation on aviation, railroad construction, customs, protecting intellectual property, culture and a joint communiqu. Details of the documents have yet to be released.

Putin said one of the pacts between the two countries is about the purchase of two nuclear reactors from Russia by China's Tianwan nuclear power plant, the most advanced nuclear power complex in China.

Putin has called for boosting sales of natural resources - Russia's main export - to China, but price has proven to be a sticking point.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin, who holds sway over Russia's energy sector, said following a meeting with Chinese representatives that Moscow and Beijing are unlikely to agree on the price of Russian gas supplies to China before the middle of next year.

Russia is looking for China to pay prices similar to those Russian gas giant Gazprom charges its European customers, but Beijing wants a discount. The two sides were about $100 per 1,000 cubic meters apart, according to Chinese officials last week.
Wen's trip follows Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's three-day visit to China in September, during which he and President Hu Jintao launched a cross-border pipeline linking the world's biggest energy producer with the largest energy consumer.
Wen said at the press conference that the partnership between Beijing and Moscow has "reached an unprecedented level" and pledged the two countries will "never become each other's enemy".
Over the past year, "our strategic cooperative partnership endured strenuous tests and reached an unprecedented level," Wen said, adding the two nations are now more confident and determined to defend their mutual interests.
"China will firmly follow the path of peaceful development and support the renaissance of Russia as a great power," he said.
"The modernization of China will not affect other countries' interests, while a solid and strong Sino-Russian relationship is in line with the fundamental interests of both countries."
Wen said Beijing is willing to boost cooperation with Moscow in Northeast Asia, Central Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, as well as in major international organizations and on mechanisms in pursuit of a "fair and reasonable new order" in international politics and the economy.
Sun Zhuangzhi, a senior researcher in Central Asian studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said the new mode of trade settlement between China and Russia follows a global trend after the financial crisis exposed the faults of a dollar-dominated world financial system.
Pang Zhongying, who specializes in international politics at Renmin University of China, said the proposal is not challenging the dollar, but aimed at avoiding the risks the dollar represents.
Wen arrived in the northern Russian city on Monday evening for a regular meeting between Chinese and Russian heads of government.
He left St. Petersburg for Moscow late on Tuesday and is set to meet with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Wednesday.
Agencies and Zhou Wa contributed to this story.

    The Right Cosmetic Dentist

This is a type of veneer that requires very little, if any, drilling and rarely any numbness. Traditional veneers require numbing and prepping the teeth, more like a cap would. But some dentists warn that the seemingly less painful route may not be an option for everyone.....

If the saying “You’re never fully dressed without a smile” is true, then cosmetic dentists of today are some of the most important wardrobe consultants around.

Research seems to bear that out. According to a survey conducted by Beall Research & Training of Chicago, eight subjects who had mild to major cosmetic improvements to their teeth were judged as more attractive, intelligent, successful, interesting, and wealthy by a group of 528 respondents.

Thanks to the recent advances in dental technology, dentists are now able to provide patients with cosmetic restorations such as porcelain veneers, which not only improve theappearance of their teeth but, at the same time, make their teeth stronger and healthier.

Cosmetic dental work, which enhances the overall appearance of a patient’s teeth and smile, is increasingly gaining popularity as an elective procedure. The options also are more varied.

The latest trends, by far, are whitening veneers, porcelain crowns, and invisible orthodontics. Among the most popular and common procedures to enhance smiles—veneers—are offered in various options. Veneers are ultra-thin coverings made of plastics, porcelain, or laminates that are bonded directly to the tooth to cover broken, chipped, or cracked teeth.

The latest trend in veneers is called lumineers. This is a type of veneer that requires very little, if any, drilling and rarely any numbness. Traditional veneers require numbing and prepping the teeth, more like a cap would. But some dentists warn that the seemingly less painful route may not be an option for everyone. Not all patients are candidates for lumineers, but there are possible combinations that can be done if necessary.

Be further warned. When considering porcelain veneers, don’t assume your family dentist is, by default, skilled in bonding or veneering procedures. All dentists are not created equally when it comes to cosmetic dentistry and especially porcelain veneers.

Knowing how to choose a cosmetic dentist and what questions to ask is important. websites such as the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry can be a good resource for finding a dentist, but most agree that patient referrals coupled with before and after pictures are good indications of a cosmetic dentist’s abilities.

Selecting a cosmetic dentist using referrals from satisfied patients is always the best. It is advisable for those considering a cosmetic dentist to ask for photographs of patients. Asking to see photos of before and after cases the dentist has done can be helpful also.

It is important to ask if the pictures are actually the doctor’s patients, as pictures can be purchased. Patients should never hesitate to get a second opinion and to take advantage of complimentary consultations from cosmetic dentists.

Training and experience can range from none to extensive. You must do your research.

Facebook Allowed to Trademark The Word Face

So long as Facebook pays the necessary fees, the application is likely to go through without objection, officials said. The U.S. Patent And Trademark Office has already allowed a period for objections and none were raised. Facebook has refused to comment.

Facebook has launched an audacious bid to trademark the word ‘face’. The social networking site put in the application because it wants to stop other companies using the term in a way which damages its own brand.

The first stage of the bid has been approved and, provided they complete all the paperwork, the full trademark will be rubber stamped by the U.S. Patent Office in six months time.

Patent lawyers had been doubted that Facebook would be granted the trademark to such a generic term as ‘face’. The move is also likely to raise further questions over the company’s motives and raise more suspicion over its long-term goals.

With more than 500 million users worldwide, Facebook is by far the world’s largest social networking site. But it has been dogged by criticism of its privacy policy and attacked for its slow response to claims that it encourages abuse.

The application was lodged with the U.S. Patent And Trademark Office which awarded it a Notice of Allowance, the first step to full approval. Over the next six months Facebook will have to demonstrate it is using the trademark and file a Statement of Use, the next phase, a head of final approval.

Facebook’s application does however limit the terms of its trademark to specific situations related to its business, so the general public will still be able to use ‘face’ without fear of breaking the law.

In Facebook’s case, it only applies to: ‘Telecommunication services, namely, providing online chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages among computer users in the field of general interest and concerning social and entertainment subject matter.’

So long as Facebook pays the necessary fees, the application is likely to go through without objection, officials said. The U.S. Patent And Trademark Office has already allowed a period for objections and none were raised. Facebook has refused to comment.

But in a curious twist, an application was lodged by former Harvard student Aaron Greenspan, who sued Facebook claiming founder Mark Zuckerberg stole the idea for the website from him, to extend the amount of time during which objections to the patent could be raised. Mr Greenspan did not eventually raise any objections, but his intervention shows that ill feeling between him and the company remains undiminished.

Car Insurance Quotes Including Gap Insurance

Car Insurance Quotes including gap insurance and you should find it adds no more than $30 or so to the premium. This $30 could save you several thousand dollars if you total your vehicle in the first three years of ownership. Obviously, you do not need gap insurance if you paid cash for the vehicle or there's a significant equity in it.

The world of insurance is full of traps for the unwary. When you set off to buy your first policy, whether it's for your vehicle, home, health or life, never assume you know anything. Always do some basic research to find out exactly what different types of cover are on offer, what they cost and whether they represent good value for money. Yes, it's a real pain to go back to school but, if you walk blindly into a "standard" policy without reading it first, the odds are you will regret it later when it comes to making a claim. Unfortunately, insurance companies are for-profit and that means they want your money and the smallest possible risk of having to give you any of it back again. Protect yourself by getting the best value-for-money coverage you can.

As an example, let's think about gap insurance. When most people are buying a new vehicle, they need finance. The cheapest deal is a bank overdraft, but they are hard to find these days. This forces you into a commercial loan. Read any loan agreement and there's always a clause requiring you to buy comprehensive and collision coverage. Obviously, your shiny new vehicle is collateral for the loan. If you default, the lender will repossess and sell it to pay off a part of your debt. Should you damage it, the lender wants it repaired so it still has some resale value. Everything is alright unless you total the vehicle.

The reason for the total loss does not matter. It can be a collision or theft. The key question is when it happens. As an example, assume you borrow $25,000 at commercial interest rates and buy a new vehicle with that cash. Ask anyone in the motor trade and they will tell you the same truth. A new vehicle loses about 30% of its value in the first year. The conventional comprehensive or collision policy pays out the current cash value of the vehicle. If your state has sales tax on a vehicle, you lose that amount from cash sale value the moment you drive it off the lot. Seconds later, you total the vehicle. You still owe the lender $25,000 plus interest but there is a gap between that liability and the amount you will receive from the insurer. Go six months and you will do well to collect $20,000. Six to twelve months will see your pay-out reduced to $18,000. In other words, the gap widens fast.

Do not buy gap insurance from your dealer. This is always too expensive. Get car insurance quotes including gap insurance and you should find it adds no more than $30 or so to the premium. This $30 could save you several thousand dollars if you total your vehicle in the first three years of ownership. Obviously, you do not need gap insurance if you paid cash for the vehicle or there's a significant equity in it. But if you lease or borrow a significant amount to buy a vehicle that depreciates fast, it really important is to get car insurance quotes with gap insurance included. Similarly, driving a high mileage increases the rate of depreciation and the risk of an accident involving total loss. It may never be needed but, if you are unlucky in losing your vehicle, that small premium increase just saved your finances from meltdown.

Selling and Buying Currencies on the Forex

The Forex market (foreign exchange market) is useful because it helps enable trade and transactions between countries, and it also allows an investment opportunity  for risk seeking investors  who don't mind engaging in speculation.
Regarding the specifics of buying and selling on forex, it is important to note that currencies are always priced in pairs. All trades result in the simultaneous purchase of one currency and the sale of another.
This necessitates a slightly different mode of thinking than what you might be used to. While trading on the forex, you would execute  a trade only at a time when you expect the currency you are buying to increase in value relative to the one you are selling.
If the currency you are buying does increase in value, you must sell the other currency back in order to lock in a profit. An open trade (or open position), therefore, is a trade in which a trader  has bought  or sold a particular currency pair and has not yet sold or bought back the equivalent  amount to  close the position.

Opera 11 Beta Introduces Tab Stacking

Opera 11 Beta Introduces Tab Stacking. Opera 11 include further support for extensions, HTML5 and visual mouse gestures, as well as an improved auto-update system, a new e-mail panel and the usual array of bug squashes and optimizations.

Opera 11 beta is out with a new way to organize tabs, called tab stacking.

The feature lets users organize their tabs into groups as they see fit. Simply drag and drop a tab onto another and a “stack” of tabs is created, which users can expand by clicking on an adjacent arrow.

The feature will come in handy for those who tend to have a lot of tabs opened at the same time. With tab stacking, users can save tabs for later perusal or organize them into categories, saving space on the tab bar.

Opera already has the most versatile tab management features among desktop browsers. Users can expand the tab bar to see tabs as thumbnails, open a private tab that leaves no browsing information behind and manage closed tabs.

Other features of note in Opera 11 Beta include further support for extensions, HTML5 and visual mouse gestures, as well as an improved auto-update system, a new e-mail panel and the usual array of bug squashes and optimizations.

Matt Cutts Calls For CEO Of Google Ideas

Matt Cutts Calls For CEO Of Google Ideas. Matt Cutts : I don't want stuff so blue sky (e.g. solving all energy problems) that we're not even sure whether it's possible.  But concrete stuff like Scott's 'surface analytics about my time that would help me improve my life' or Lauren's suggestion [covering customer support] are the sorts of things I'd love to hear. . . .

If you've ever wanted to have a say in what Google does next, a visit to Matt Cutts's blog may be in order.  This afternoon, Cutts published a post asking readers what actions they'd take as Google's CEO, and although no official contest is in effect (and Eric Schmidt's definitely not stepping aside), the question may be more than random link bait.

Interested?  Cutts wrote, "I'd like to know: what products would you launch?  What ideas would you fund? . . . .  I'm specifically interested in Big Ideas.  Things like data liberation or self-driving cars.  Or what's the one huge feature missing from a Google product?  In essence, what are the big products, features, or ideas that you would like to see Google work on?"

Fair warning: don't bother trying to get Google to perfect a $500 Ferrari.  Or build a spaceship, however cool that would be (and the company could probably do it, with its NASA connections and market cap of $190 billion).

In the comments section, Cutts clarified, "I don't want stuff so blue sky (e.g. solving all energy problems) that we're not even sure whether it's possible.  But concrete stuff like Scott's 'surface analytics about my time that would help me improve my life' or Lauren's suggestion [covering customer support] are the sorts of things I'd love to hear. . . .  Maybe a good idea/proposal is something that 1 to 20 people could deliver in 2011 if they really worked hard?"

So perhaps the whole "CEO of Google" setup aimed a little too high.  Still, that "1 to 20 people" remark makes it seem much more likely that Google will actually accept someone's recommendation.

Good luck making the cut (and receiving some sort of reward) if you decide to volunteer an idea.

How to Get a Job in the United States

Applying for a job in the United States may be very different than in your home country. There are certain “rules and regulations” to follow in terms of what information to include on your Curriculum Vita (CV). or resume as well as cover letter. For example, depending on the position, applicants may be expected to submit a one page resume, as opposed to a CV. Your resume and CV should not specify salary requirements, marital status, age of children and their names, your height, weight, and reasons for leaving previous jobs.

The “How to Get a Job in the United States” guide provides important information on how to successfully obtain a job in the United States. It includes integral information such as how to inventory your strengths, search for a job, write a cover letter and resume, and prepare for the interview.

Jobs are available in a number of different avenues such as newspapers, internet, employment centers, through headhunters, job banks, networking, and job fairs. The process of obtaining a job in the United States is never easy, and it often involves much preparation and hard work. Job applicants are encouraged to take a thorough inventory of their strengths and weaknesses. Do you know what your potential is?

A proven strategy to help to prepare for job opportunities is to engage in self-analysis and determine what you can contribute to an organization as well as areas which you can improve on. Once you know what you can offer to an organization, it is time to write a cover letter and CV or resume. When you are called for interviews, you need to know how to present yourself and what questions to expect. Many jobs are lost because individuals are not prepared for the job interview.

ABC7 was a preview of the items, and here are some tips for you. One of them is climbing, one assumes that Oprah calls her a “love sandwich” and one quarter of a century in the making.

This show will be the first time Oprah will do anything in its 25-year history, and it will be devoted to a special group of people.

“We had a couple of paramedics in the standby mode because it is audience – I’ve seen a lot over the years, but I’ve never seen people act like that,” said Oprah.

    500 Dollar Silver

500 Dollar Silver. The thing that scares me is this – when Silver is $500 an ounce how much will gold be? Right now, it’s $1,358 per ounce, but silver is less than $28 per ounce. You do the math  So do you think that 500 dollar silver would ever be possible?

500 Dollar Silver? Could the prices of silver jump up to 500 dollars an ounce?
For those who don’t know how much silver prices usually run, Reuters Africa noted that analysts expect an ounce of silver to run $28 per ounce in 2011.

That being said, $500 silver seems out of place, doesn’t it?

The term “500 dollar silver” came in to play when it was discovered that JP Morgan has Naked Shorts on Silver – which is a form of counterfeiting.  There’s a viral internet campaign to “crash” JP Morgan by purchasing large quantities of silver, and then demanding physical delivery.

This would force JP Morgan to have to purchase silver on the open market, and with demand from orders up, this would essentially cripple their balance sheet.

While shorting silver, JP Morgan bets that the value will DECLINE.  However, this is a viral internet campaign, and it’s unlikely to actually happen. Before buying or selling any investment or hedge, be sure to talk to your financial advisor.

The thing that scares me is this – when Silver is $500 an ounce how much will gold be? Right now, it’s $1,358 per ounce, but silver is less than $28 per ounce. You do the math  So do you think that 500 dollar silver would ever be possible?

    MySpace Announces Mashup With Facebook

You Can Now Log in to MySpace with Facebook. The latest Facebook integration may help keep existing members happy with a more personalized experience, but MySpace still has work to do to regain that mind share and recapture traffic, said Augie Ray, social media analyst with Forrester Research Inc

MySpace Inc. announced it is doing a Mashup with Facebook, integrating the basic functions of its former rival in a move to make the one-time king of social networking a more relevant "social entertainment" destination.

The mashup essentially reconnects MySpace to the type of massive social networking activity it once had before it was surpassed by Palo Alto's Facebook Inc.

Starting today, MySpace members will be seeing a "Mashup with Facebook" button on their homepage to access the opt-in feature. Clicking on it will pull in their "likes" and other interests already stored on their Facebook profiles.

That, in turn, will signal MySpace's algorithms to start feeding relevant topic pages, profiles, video programing, music, celebrity news and other information into their MySpace streams.

It isn't the first collaboration between the two companies. More than one million members have synced their MySpace status updates with their Facebook profile in the month since the introduction of "Sync with Facebook."

MySpace, which is based in Beverly Hills and owned by media conglomerate News Corp., will soon be installing a Facebook "Like" button across its site.

In a Web conference with reporters, MySpace CEO Mike Jones said Mashup will build on that relationship, although he wouldn't speculate on how much new traffic it will bring.

MySpace has already acknowledged Facebook as the winner in the battle for social networking supremacy and has been redesigning itself as a social entertainment destination targeted at a younger Gen Y audience.

Dan Rose, Facebook's vice president of partnerships and platform marketing, said the partnership is a good mashup of Facebook's strategy to build a social networking platform and MySpace's new social entertainment strategy.

The partnership does not include any financial components, suchas ad revenue sharing.

Facebook has more than 500 million active members, while MySpace still has a fairly large user base of about 130 million. But Facebook's rise has also diminished awareness of MySpace among Internet users.

The latest Facebook integration may help keep existing members happy with a more personalized experience, but MySpace still has work to do to regain that mind share and recapture traffic, said Augie Ray, social media analyst with Forrester Research Inc.

"It will get people to come back and encourage people to share with their friends," Ray said. "It makes MySpace instantly a more rich experience."
